MY DETOX JOURNEY: WHAT NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT DETOXING

Everything I wish I knew before starting the 5-Day Detox, and tips for my fellow detox-newbies.

Thinking about starting the detox, but not sure it’s worth the hype? I’ve been there. I’ve always been skeptical about diet trends and detox fads because truth be told, I’ve tried a lot of them and none of them worked.

But when I heard about the plant-based 5-Day Detox by Your Super, it caught my attention. Only five days? And I won’t be drinking celery juice the whole time? Sign me up.

After reading the great reviews and exploring their Facebook group, I purchased the Detox Bundle and prepared for five days of healthy living. Was I thrilled about doing a detox? Not really, especially the no-caffeine part. I’m one of those “don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee” types. Not to mention I love all things sweet… But I was ready to give up all vices for the sake of my health.

Like many others, I decided to do the detox because 1. I wanted to lose a little weight and 2. I was tired of feeling tired. I typically have low energy and experience a lot of bloating, even though I exercise 3-4 times a week and eat a plant-based diet. I also have puffy, red skin that no product or diet has improved. So, I gave the 5-Day Detox a shot, and here’s what I learned...

#1 SNACKING IS ESSENTIAL

I’ll be honest, this was a lesson I learned a little too late. The first 3 days of my detox, I ate three things and three things only: 1 breakfast smoothie, 1 salad, 1 dinner smoothie. And let me tell you – I was starving.

I started to dream (yes, literally dream) about eating my favorite comfort foods, and my stomach would grumble so loudly the whole room would hear. So, I went to the Facebook group and asked if anyone else was experiencing hunger pains like I was, which was when I learned that almost everyone else was filling up on healthy snacks throughout the day.

When I went back through the e-book, I realized I skipped the “snack recipes” section entirely, so I guess I learned two lessons that day: 1. Snacking on the detox is okay and 2. Read the handbook first.

#2 HYDRATION IS KEY

Drinking enough water is something I’ve always struggled with, but on the detox, I couldn’t get enough of it. I don’t know if it was related to the lack of sugar and salt in my diet, or if I was subconsciously trying to prevent caffeine headaches, but I was drinking almost double the amount I usually do.

After a quick Google search, I learned that our bodies actually need water to flush out toxins and detoxify. In other words—the more water you drink, the better your detox will be.

#3 MEAL PREP IS A MUST

Meal prepping always feels like a big chore, but believe me, the last thing you’ll want to do during this detox is cook. Before starting, I chopped my veggies and prepped my lunches for each day. I also washed and froze any fruits I planned on using in smoothies.

This allowed me to quickly whip up my meals, which was a lifesaver because I had pretty low energy during the first few days.

#4 EVERYONE’S RESULTS ARE DIFFERENT

I originally started the detox because I read so many reviews of people raving about their weight loss. So, I made a promise to myself that I wasn’t going to hop on the scale until I was completely finished.

But when I finally did, I was disappointed to find that I had only lost 4 pounds. That’s about how much my weight fluctuates from morning to night, so 4 pounds felt like nothing.

It wasn’t until later that day that I noticed how great I felt. Without even realizing it, I skipped my morning coffee and went straight for another smoothie. My energy that day was through the roof and my face was dramatically less puffy and red. (Even my boyfriend noticed!) Plus, my bloating really went down.

Although my results weren’t the same as some of the others in the Facebook group, I did feel amazing and my sugar cravings were nonexistent.

THE TAKEAWAY

Did I get the exact results I wanted? No. But did I have more energy, less cravings, and healthier looking skin? You bet. If you’re looking for an easy, natural way to cleanse your body, the 5-Day Detox is for you.

It’s such a great way to reset your health, and if you’re anything like me, you might just adopt some new habits.

So will I do it again? Absolutely! In fact, I’m joining the group detox next month. Hope to see you there!
